Multi functional Zhavoronki Sports Centre

This trend-setting, impressive building located in Zhavoronki may be transformed to host competitions in 22 different sports – something never before seen in any Russian venue.

It was the Russian company Magnum Sports that handled this project from its very beginning to the end: design, architecture and equipment of a magnificent 14,000m2 in the rural outskirts of Odintsovo, near Moscow. Its design is based on a multiplication of the same arch that first create the entrance, then the parking area and finally the non regular shapes of the buildings. Having in mind a clear dialogue with the environment, all façades have large windows open to the forest and two tone cladding that replicate the colours of the surrounding timber.

This complex is much more than a multi purpose venue; it is intended to be used even as high performing sports centre. Thus, it is equipped with all those facilites required for such purpose – from residence to swimming pool, relaxing areas and food courts. Needless to say its equipment for gymnastics and dancing is magnificent, specially its 2,500 spectators Main Hall.

Thanks to its functionality and superb finishes, this venue has already become a reference for other sports projects in the country. The fixed area hosts 1,600 bench mounted Space Max chairs in an effort to use as less pedestals as possible to improve cleaning; 30 out of those seats are equipped with writing tablets for the jury of the gymnastics & dancing events. If the competition allows more capacity, the 4 telescopic tribunes located in front can be opened & closed within minutes. These were supplied in conjunction with our French partner Hugon Tribunes: 550 Space Max Retractable chairs manually foldable with the help of gas struts and installed in electrically operated tribunes that allow total or partial opening. Lastly, an extra row of freestanding chairs can be added in front of the tribunes in groups of 2-3 chairs to increase total capacity by 80 people.

It is hard to find a sports venue like this one where comfort, vision and above all, finishes are so important. Take this as an example: apart from using chairs with upholstered seat & back cushions that might be found in any given auditorium, all chairs are upholstered in 6 different colours following a given pattern that  takes into account the black colour not only of metal & plastic parts but also of the numbering plates.
