The André Malraux cultural center, built in 1986 following the original project of the architect Mario Botta has been closed for 2 years due to refurbishment works. All 1,000 seats have been renovated, acoustics have been significantly improved and the stage set capacity has been increased from 5 to 20 tons.

The renovation project by Fabre Speller Architectes has been executed in collaboration with Thierry Guignard as theatre consultant and Studio DAP as acousticians. Meanwhile Ascénder supplied a tailor made version of the Cervantes chair: modern shapes using traditional materials. Curved outer plywood panels for seat and back and 500gr velour to preserve the absorption coefficients established by Studio DAP. Similarly, every chair was produced specifically following the seat centres requested by the topographic survey carried out to avoid the ventilation grids of the Stalls. Finally, different versions of the same Cervantes chair can be seen both in the Orchestra Pit (removable solutions, transfer arms, etc.) and the Rehearsal Hall (with a custom made bench)
