The Theatre Anthea was a personal commitment to arts and culture by the local and regional administration of Antibes: the aim was creating a great venue that might accommodate 40,000 spectators per year attending a complete program of opera, theatre, ballet, music and even circus.
After 3 years of work this project was totally finished – Archidey was the designer of the building, Jean – Paul Lamoreux was in charge of acoustics and Thierry Grignard of the scenography. The shape of the building is inspired by the Fort Carre Antibes – but adapted to modernity thanks to the use of different materials (concrete, glass, aluminum, Corten steel and wood). Thus, the architecture of the building reflects the main concern of the project: provoke surprise, mix different genres and improve co-operation between different arts. Meanwhile, the interior of the building hosts a fantastic white helical ramp of irregular shapes that connects the five levels of the theatre; from the ground floor to the panoramic restaurant on the roof. A particular solution that recalls the interior of the Guggenheim Museum of New York.
With a total ara of over 9,000m2, this theatre offers two different venues: the Jacques Audiberti hall with 1,200 seats (700 in the Stalls and 500 in the Balconies) and the Pierre Vaneck with 200 posts where we installed our products. This venue was specifically created for young spectators and local companies that require special dimensions for their performances: the solution adopted was a telescopic tribune that, when closed, might liberate an stage as big as the one of the big hall.
The telescopic tribune selected here has semi automatic operation: the steps of the tribune are electronically operated while gas pistons control the opening and closing movements of the chairs distributed in groups of 4-5 Space Max. All chairs were manufactured following the aesthetics of the venue: all metal parts are painted in the same color of the tribune, seat & arms are fully upholstered and all backs are finished with wood panels varnished in the same color to the rest of the hall.
