KOSMOS ARENA
The KOSMOS ARENA of Samara was designed by the German architecture studio GMP for a total capacity of 45.000 spectators – and as per its name, it is inspired in the space industry of Samara. The façade was “removed” so the stadium seems not to be connected to any structure… like a space shuttle ready to take off. Six games will be played here and after the World Cup the local first division team Krylia Sovetov, will play here.
MORDOVIA ARENA
The construction works of Saransk stadium started in 2010 based on a project by the German architect Tim Hupe: a simple venue with the shape of a bowl and amazing colours combination of orange, red and white, the same pattern of the local Mordovian pottery. Once the World Cup is over, the upper circle of this 45,000 stadium will be removed so its total capacity will be decreased to just 28,000 – then the resulting venue will be used for gymnastics, volleyball, basketball and tennis tournaments.
